Minnesota West hosts open house for new Occupational Therapy Assistant program
The OTA program will welcome its first class of students in May, followed by the second cohort in August.
WORTHINGTON — The public is invited to explore the new state-of-the-art occupational therapy assistant lab at an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 on the Worthington campus of Minnesota West Community and Technical College.
Students and community members will see what the program will offer, and what it is like to be a student in the OTA program. Attendees may also explore the campus as a whole, including the dedicated OTA lab space and classrooms.
Prospective students will meet instructors Anna Sandager and Amber Garcia, walk through the application process and requirements, and learn more about the program, which allows students to earn an AAS degree in as little as five semesters.
The OTA program will welcome its first class of students in May, followed by the second cohort in August. The deadline to apply for the August start date is January 15, 2023, and applications received after that date will be placed on a wait list.
In September, the new OTA program achieved candidacy status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education of the American Occupational Therapy Association, and Minnesota West faculty are working to ensure that a quality OTA program and career path is available for the area. Employers in the area have also supported the development of an OTA program.
