Prairie Elementary student earns regional honors for American flag art

Drah, who painted an American flag for Veterans Day, will go on to compete at the Minnesota VFW Auxiliary level.

WILMONT — Shameri Drah, a second-grader in Emily Winter's class at Prairie Elementary who won the Wilmont VFW Auxiliary's Illustrating America Coloring Contest, won the regional contest as well this morning.

Drah, who painted an American flag for Veterans Day, will go on to compete at the Minnesota VFW Auxiliary level. Winners will be announced sometime in June, said Anne Foley, public relations/communications coordinator for District 518.

Drah was presented with a certificate and cash award by Wilmont VFW Auxiliary members Roxanne Kremer and Carolyn Penning, along with Assistant Principal Cory Van Briesen, Winter and Dawn Teerink, both teachers, and Assistant Principal Kari Gjerde.
