MANKATO — The public is invited to an in-person open house from 5 to 7 p.m. April 12 at Lakefield City Hall, 301 Main St., for information about the upcoming Minnesota 86 construction work expected to begin in mid-April.

No formal presentation is planned, and attendees are welcome to arrive at any time. Staff from MnDOT and the contractor will be present at the open house to provide more information about the project and answer questions.

MnDOT plans to reconstruct approximately 1.3 miles of Minnesota 86 through Lakefield. The project will include grading, pavement, utility replacement, lighting, drainage and sidewalk reconstruction.

Weather permitting, construction is expected to begin in mid-April and be completed by mid-November. Minnesota 86 through Lakefield will be closed during construction and traffic detoured. Local access will be maintained for local residents and businesses.

Benefits of the project include improved pedestrian accommodations, updated utilities, smoother road surfaces and increased safety along the corridor. R & R Excavating, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $8.29 million.
