WORTHINGTON — A comment made in jest by a student at Worthington Christian School Friday prompted a call to law enforcement and review of the school's emergency procedures.

Deb Vander Kooi, school administrator, said the school took the comment seriously, and the situation had been a learning experience.

"It taught students that words do matter, that you can't say something in jest, that there are boundaries," she said. "Lessons have been learned."

Parents were contacted, as was law enforcement, and consequences for the student involved have yet to be determined, according to Vander Kooi.

"It was a very hard situation," she said. "It's a situation that sadly happened. It caused us to reevaluate everything, which is good in the end."
