Three men, including two from northwest Iowa, arrested after ATM burglary, police chase in Sherburne County

Deputies were called at 4 a.m. to Briggs Lake General Store in the 4200 block of 105th Avenue Southeast in Palmer Township.

PALMER TOWNSHIP — Three men were arrested early Friday, April 14, after an ATM theft and a chase by deputies, according to a Sherburne County Sheriff's Office news release.

Arrested were Johnathan L. Axelson, 51, of Minneapolis; Daniel P. Johnson, 40, of Spencer, Iowa, and Robert V. McKevitt, 36, of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Deputies were called at 4 a.m. to Briggs Lake General Store in the 4200 block of 105th Avenue Southeast in Palmer Township, according to the release. Sheriff Joel Brott said the suspects broke in through the front door and took the ATM.

Security cameras captured at least two of the suspects and the vehicle used during the burglary. Within minutes of a dispatch broadcast, deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the area and attempted a traffic stop, according to the release. The driver did not stop, and the pursuit began.

The pursuit ended, according to the release, and deputies arrested the three men in the vehicle, identified as Axelson, Johnson and McKevitt. The three men were in custody Friday, according to Sherburne County jail records.
