WINDOM — Windom Area Schools went into a lockdown after a student reported finding .22 shells in the bathroom at 11:17 a.m. today.
Students and teachers stayed in their classrooms while the administration and the Windom Police Department investigated the situation. During the search, weapons were found in a vehicle outside of the school unloaded, and a juvenile was taken into custody.
It was determined that the building was safe, the lockdown was lifted and students returned to class.
"We take all reports seriously to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. I'm proud of our students for speaking up and immediately reporting the findings to the office. We will continue to follow our protocols to ensure a safe learning environment for all," stated a press release from the Windom Police Department.
The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office.
