3 file to run for mayor of Worthington

The candidate filing period continues until 5 p.m. Aug. 16.

WORTHINGTON — The filing period opened Tuesday for city offices in Minnesota that do not conduct a primary, and for school districts.

Former elementary school remains slated for demolition, but the District 518 Board of Education agreed to consider the matter further at an upcoming meeting.

In Worthington, three people have filed thus far for the mayoral post. Mayor Mike Kuhle announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection. As of Thursday afternoon, councilman Chad Cummings, recent honorary councilman Rick Von Holdt and former city councilman Rod Sankey had filed for the seat. The filing period remains open at Worthington City Hall until 5 p.m. Aug. 16.

Additional city filings include incumbent Larry Janssen seeking to retain his seat in Ward 1, and incumbent Alaina Kolpin, seeking to retain her seat in Ward 2.

In Worthington School District 518, the only candidate to file thus far is incumbent Adam Blume. Those interested in filing must contact the District 518 administration office in its temporary location at the West Learning Center.
