WORTHINGTON — A Detroit Lakes resident appeared in court Tuesday after being accused of stealing a semi and trailer from a Worthington business.
The semi was reported stolen Aug. 1 when the employee who had parked the truck returned to use it, and it was missing. The keys had been left in the vehicle.
The semi was later found in Madison County, Nebraska, being driven by Jess Brenk, 33. Brenk allegedly claimed that the semi and trailer had been repossessed and that he was taking them to be sold. It was also reported that he gave a false name to law enforcement and became physically combative during his arrest.
After being apprehended in Nebraska, Brenk received a summons to appear in Nobles County District Court in relation to the theft.
He was charged with felony theft, which carries a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a $100,000 fine. If convicted, Brenk will be sentenced based on his criminal history.

Brenk's first court appearance was Tuesday afternoon.
Because Brenk was not arrested in Nobles County but received a court summons, he has no mug shot.
