WILLMAR -- A 29-year-old Willmar man made his first court appearance Monday on two felony first-degree witness tampering charges for allegedly threatening to kidnap a woman's daughters, take them to Mexico, get them hooked on drugs and prostitute them.
The woman was scheduled to testify in another court case, which charges Omar Jason Romero with a second-degree drug felony for allegedly selling 5.4 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant for $800 on Dec. 16.
Bail was set at $50,000 for Omar Jason Romero. His next appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court is Aug. 24.
According to the complaint, a CEE-VI Drug Task Force agent and Willmar Police officer learned July 19 that Romero allegedly made the threat to another woman against the potential witness two days before she was scheduled to testify against him.
The woman was interviewed and said she was terrified because she knew Romero was capable of doing what he had threatened.

Romero also made court appearances on the drug case, along with another set of charges stemming from a June 15 incident that included fleeing police in a motor vehicle and three misdemeanor cases.
A review of his record includes a prior domestic assault conviction in April 2008, a resisting arrest conviction in January 2004, a 2003 conviction for unlawfully carrying a weapon, plus prior convictions in Texas for assault in 2000 and violation of a restraining order in 2002.
