ST. CLOUD - An apparent altercation between two farm workers led to the arrest of one of them for allegedly threatening to kill the other with a pitchfork.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, a 42-year-old man from Miami, Fla., is being held in the Stearns County Jail pending a court appearance.
Sheriff’s deputies responded late Friday afternoon to the scene, a farm field south of Georgeville in Crow River Township. The Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that an argument apparently broke out between the suspect and a 25-year-old Brooten man while they were out in the field working. The suspect allegedly picked up a pitchfork, threatened to kill the other man and chased him with it, then stabbed the pitchfork into the ground next to the victim when he fell into a drainage ditch.
Other field workers were able to separate the two and call the sheriff’s office for help.
The suspect is facing charges of assault and terroristic threats.
