HUDSON, Wis. - A man accused of abusing his dog causing the animal's death was convicted Thursday.
Michael Wondra, 26, of Hudson pleaded guilty to one felony count of mistreating an animal before St. Croix County Circuit Court Judge Howard W. Cameron.
Prosecutor Sharon Correll and public defender Joseph Caton had worked out a plea agreement whereby the state would stand by the recommended sentence as result of a pre-sentence investigation. The agreement involved withdrawal of a not guilty by reason of mental defect plea filed earlier by Wondra.
Judge Cameron set sentencing for Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.
Wondra was arrested following a Jan. 1 incident at his then town of Hudson residence.

A neighbor heard the dog squealing in pain. The animal was chained underneath a pine tree. There was blood on the dog and a soup ladle sticking out of the dog's anus, the criminal complaint said.
