MONTGOMERY, Iowa -- A Lake Park, Iowa, man was found dead in a waterway in Diamond Lake Township, Dickinson County, early Tuesday morning.

The body of Dale Peters, 65,  was found after the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a vehicle partially submerged in water in the 1100 block of 190th Avenue, located north of Montgomery in Diamond Lake Township. After determining the owner of the vehicle was not at home, a search was conducted in the water around the vehicle, and rescuers discovered Peters’ body near the vehicle.

It is believed Peters lost control of his vehicle on the gravel road and entered the west ditch, where the vehicle rolled once. The 2004 Jeep Cherokee owned by Peters was a total loss.

Assisting at the scene were Lake Park Rescue, Lake Park Fire Department, Arnolds Park/Okoboji Dive Team, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol, Dickinson County Emergency Management and Dickinson County Communications Center.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
