BEMIDJI - A Backus man was killed after being struck by a tire that came off a dump truck while he was retrieving his mail in his driveway.
Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch says the sheriff’s office received a medical assitance call at 10:22 a.m. last Wednesday at a residence in the Backus area.
The victim, Charles Linn, 74, was transported to a St. Cloud hospital, where he died, the sheriff’s office said. Linn had been struck at the end of his driveway by a tire that came off a dump truck, authorities said. The driver of the dump truck, Bruce Eveland, 72, of Backus, was uninjured and was unaware that the tire had come off. The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Minnesota State Patrol. The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by North Ambulance.
