Man shoots, kills self in south Fargo church parking lot

FARGO, N.D. -- A man sitting in a vehicle in a south Fargo church parking lot shot and killed himself Sunday, according to Fargo police Lt. Jason Nelson.

Around 11:20 a.m., a shot was heard in the north parking lot of Olivet Lutheran Church at 1300 University Drive.
“We utilized as many of our resources as we could to have a different outcome but unfortunately it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to,” Nelson said.
SWAT team members and firefighters surrounded a red pickup truck in the church parking lot after the shot was heard.
Olivet Lutheran Church was evacuated at the south side around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after the report of a suicidal man in the area was made.
Police closed several streets surrounding the church. Most of them had been opened by 11:45 a.m.
