DULUTH - A Duluth dentist is in stable condition in St. Mary's Medical Center after broadsiding a parked Minnesota State Patrol trooper with his vehicle early Saturday on Interstate 35 near Cloquet.

Timothy Langguth, 61, of Moose Lake, had initially been reported in critical condition but was listed as stable at noon Sunday.

According to the state patrol, trooper Erick Sjodin was parked in a median at 12:25 a.m. Saturday, waiting for a northbound vehicle for which there had been a drunken driving complaint.

Langguth's 1998 Subaru Legacy reportedly crossed into the median and broadsided the squad car, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, on the passenger side. The accident occurred between the Scanlon and Cloquet exits.

Sjodin was taken to St. Mary's to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including bruises and cuts, the state patrol said.

Both vehicles were total losses. The state patrol said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

Langguth has been a dentist for 36 years and is a past president of the Minnesota Dental Association.
