HAWLEY, Minn. — Police are investigating the death of a person found floating in a slough in rural Hawley in northwest Minnesota.
According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Hawley police received information at around 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 regarding something suspicious floating in a slough.
When officers arrived, they found it to be a deceased person. They also noticed vehicle tracks entering into the ditch, along with small trees and branches knocked over. Police found vehicle parts in the area and saw what appeared to be vehicle tire rims under the water, approximately 50 yards into the slough.
Valley Water Rescue responded to the scene, entered the water and confirmed it was a vehicle. A tow truck was called to the scene and recovered the vehicle.
The sheriff's office says it is unknown what time the crash happened or if weather was a factor. There were periods of fairly heavy snow throughout the area Wednesday.

The investigation into the crash continues; the name of the victim will be released once family has been notified.
