DETROIT LAKES - A rural Becker County woman was found unharmed after she went missing Sunday afternoon, leading to a search that lasted through the night.

The 63-year-old Rochert woman, who suffers from dementia, was out with her husband at the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge area when she went missing around 4 p.m.

Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon said the couple was in the woods when she wandered off and they lost sight of each other.

The woman's cell phone was dead and her husband was unable to locate her, Gordon added. He finally called authorities around 8 p.m., and then the search by a number of law enforcement agencies and about 25 friends and relatives ensued.

The sheriff's office along with Frazee Rescue, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge employees, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Conservation officers, White Earth Police and conservation officers, the Minnesota State Patrol and two helicopters were en route searching for the woman.

"It was a pretty involved effort -- she had been missing since 4 p.m. and we found her at 1:20 a.m.," Gordon said.

She was found near where she had gone missing, about 2 miles off County Road 26.

Aside from being slightly hypothermic, she was uninjured and returned home safely with her husband, Gordon said.
