Murray County commissioners interview administrator candidates

Vote to enter into negotiations with Thomas Burke.

SLAYTON — Four candidates for the Murray County Administrator post traveled to Slayton on Thursday for interviews with county department heads and the board of commissioners.

Following the interviews and board discussion, commissioners voted to enter into negotiations with Thomas Burke, who has served for the past two years as the deputy director of Cass County Health, Human, and Veteran Services. Prior to that, he was director of Aitkin County Health and Human Services for 19 years.

Gary Weiers of David Drown Associates, who has been consulting with the board throughout the hiring process, will bring a contract recommendation to a future county board meeting for approval.

Also interviewing for the post were: James Halasz, who most recently served as county administrator for Halifax County, Va..; Molly Malone, currently director of education for; and Marc Mattice, director of parks and recreation for Wright County for 21 years.
