WORTHINGTON -- An elderly rural Worthington woman died early Monday as a result of a fire at her residence.

June Wiese, 83, died in the fire, which was reported at 2:28 a.m. Monday at 21111 Oliver Ave. The Worthington Fire Department, Nobles County Sheriff's Office, Bigelow Fire Department, Rushmore Fire Department, Worthington Ambulance and the State Fire Marshall Division were dispatched to the blaze.

During fire suppression, Worthington firefighters determined the home was occupied by Wiese. A Nobles County Sheriff's Office press release said the fire is under investigation pending results of the autopsy.

The Worthington Fire Department, Nobles County Sheriff's Office, Bigelow Fire Department, Rushmore Fire Department, Worthington Ambulance and the State Fire Marshal Division were dispatched to the fire, which was reported at 2:28 a.m. Monday at 21111 Oliver Ave.

During fire suppression, Worthington firefighters determined the home was occupied by an elderly woman whose identity is currently being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The fire is under investigation pending results of the autopsy.

Ryan McGaughey arrived in Worthington in April 2001 as sports editor of The Daily Globe, and first joined Forum Communications Co. upon his hiring as a sports reporter at The Dickinson (North Dakota) Press in November 1998. McGaughey became news editor in Worthington in November 2002 and editor in August 2006.
