MILFORD, Iowa -- A 67-year-old man from Canyon, Texas, was killed Wednesday when the plane he was piloting crashed in southwest Dickinson County.

Geary Gearn, the lone occupant of the aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration were on the scene Thursday morning to complete an on-site investigation. Their findings will be handed over to the National Transportation Safety Board, which will make a final report on the incident.

The Dickinson County Communications Center received a call at 1:53 p.m. Wednesday of an airplane flying low. While on the phone, the caller heard what was believed to be a crash. Units from several agencies searched an area southwest of Milford for any downed aircraft.

A second call was received at approximately 2:45 p.m. from an individual who had located the downed aircraft.
