MARIE NIICHEL, 97, of Ashton, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Osceola Community Hospital, Sibley, Iowa.

Born March 25, 1909, in Ashton, she was the daughter of Peter and Etta Wallrich Johannes. She married John Niichel Aug. 3, 1929, in Ashton. He died in 1986.

She graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School, Ashton. After marriage, they farmed in the Ashton area. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ashton, where she served in the Women's Guild and Catholic Daughters. She was also active in the senior citizens.

Surviving are three children, Glen Niichel, Grandview, Wash., Letha Gacke, Sibley, and Jeanne Frick, Ashton; two sisters, Barbara Seivert, Ashton, and Cecilia Johannes, Sibley; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The service was Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ashton, with the Rev. Clair Boes officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Ashton.

FRANCES PERRYETTA FUERSTENBERG, 97, of St. Kilian, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at Sioux Valley Luverne Hospice Cottage, Luverne.

Born April 9, 1909, in Rock County, she was the daughter of William "Frank" and Agnes Kachelhoffer Lynch. She married Leo Fuerstenberg June 15, 1933, in Luverne. He died Aug. 9, 1982.

She graduated in 1926 from Luverne High School and in 1928 from Mankato State Teachers College. She taught two years in Nobles County District 86 near Reading and two years at District 43 in Rock County. After marriage, they lived in St. Kilian. She did occasional substitute teaching at the St. Kilian school. She was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church, where she served as sacristan for many years and was involved in the altar society. She was also a member of the Happy Country Club project group.

Surviving are five daughters, Marian Franklin, Twin Valley, Leola (Michael) Sweeney, Luverne, Shirley (Verilyn) Legler, Slayton, Jane (Glenn Larson) Nekali, Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Carol (James) Volk, Madison Lake; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with 7:30 p.m. parish prayers, at St. Kilian Catholic Church, St. Kilian.

The service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Kilian Catholic Church with Roxanne Kemper and the Rev. Gerald Kosse officiating. Burial will be in St. Kilian Cemetery.

ANN MARIE HENRIKSEN, 89, of Luverne, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Lismore Township, Nobles County, she was the daughter of Martin and Bertha Olson Williamson. She married Howard Henriksen in June 1939 at Eastside Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, S.D. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Adrian Public School in 1935. After marriage, they lived on a farm in Rock County and shortly moved to Luverne. She worked at the Scandin Café, Longs Café and Tony's IGA in Luverne. After her husband's death, she moved into the Centennial Apartments and continued to work at the Hy-Vee store and then Glen's Foods until she retired. She became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in 2003. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Luverne, where she sang in the choir and was in ladies aid and circle. She also belonged to the Luverne Senior Center and RSVP.

Surviving are one son, Garfield (Ellaine) Henriksen, Brandon, S.D.; one daughter, Judy Henriksen, Cashton, Wis.; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hartquist Funeral Home-Engebretson Chapel, Luverne.

The service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Luverne. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne.
