NELSON FREDERICK "FRED" BOUMA, 76, of Edgerton, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
Born Aug. 21, 1929, in Edgerton, he was the son of Sidney and Johanna Schultz Bouma. He married Frances Noor on June 22, 1951, at Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, Mich.
He grew up in Edgerton where he and his siblings helped with the family meat retail business. He attended Edgerton Christian Elementary School and graduated in 1947 from Western Christian High School, Hull, Iowa. After high school, he continued his education at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich., and the University of Minnesota. Early in his marriage, he was drafted into the Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. He was based in Munich, Germany. He was discharged in 1953 and returned to Grand Rapids where he completed his education in 1955, achieving a certificate in business administration. They moved to Edgerton in 1955 where he bought into his father's meat market with his brother and uncle, operating the market until 1973. In that year, he became administrator of Edgebrook Care Center, Edgerton, and retired in 1979. In November 2003, he was admitted into Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne. He was an active member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, where he was a past church council member. He was a member of the American Legion. He had positions in the Edgerton Chamber of Commerce and was on the Christian Grade School Board.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Jeffrey (Sherry) Bouma, Lynnwood, Wash.; three brothers, Bernie (Barbara) Bouma, Shreveport, La., Adrian (Johanna) Bouma and Jim (Lorraine) Bouma, all of Edgerton; two sisters, Anna (Ron) Day, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Eunice (Bob) Green, Lodi, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home, Edgerton.

JENNIE S. ZEVENBERGEN, 101, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond.
Born Nov. 11, 1904, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, she was the daughter of Arie and Dean Verhoek Monster. She married Ike Zevenbergen Feb. 24, 1924. He preceded her in death.
In 1910, she came to the United States with her mother and younger brother. They joined her father who had been here for a year. During her childhood, she lived in various towns in Iowa and Minnesota. Six years after marriage, they moved to a farm near Ashton, Iowa, where they lived for 22 years. They then purchased a farm east of Worthington. After retiring, they moved to Worthington. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 15 years, was involved with Release Time classes and daily Vacation Bible School.
Surviving are one son, Leon (Kay) Zevenbergen, Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Marie Hickman, Belmond; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Walton-Roste Funeral Home, Ashton, Iowa.

STANLEY T. SALSBURY, 75, of Sibley, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Born May 24, 1930, in Unionville Center, Ohio, he was the son of Stanley W. and Clara Wheeler Salsbury. He married Maria Scharn May 1, 1980, in Sioux Falls.
He lived his youth in Unionville Center, where he attended school and graduated from high school. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for several different companies for 52 years. After marriage, they lived in Texas for several years before moving to Sibley, Iowa, in 1990.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Lida Jane (Glenn) Thompson, Marysville, Ohio, Rosie (Allen) Parker, Dayton, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Katharina (Steve) Bowey, Sutton Ashfield, United Kingdom, Victoria Ann (Kennet) Waymire, Mabank, Texas; one sister, Jane Kuhlwein, Duvall, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. at Andringa Funeral Home, Sibley.

JOYCE ARLEEN ALBERTS, 70, of Pipestone, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at her home.
Born April 17, 1935, in New Avon Township in Redwood County, she was the daughter of John J. and Myrtle Waters McCorkell. She married Jimmy Lee Alberts on Feb. 21, 1959, in Redwood Falls. He died on June 12, 2005.

She started school in District 14 country school and completed her high school years with graduation from Wabasso Public School in 1953. In September 1953, she moved to Aberdeen, Wash., and became employed in the jewelry department at Kress' Department Store. She also worked as a crab meat packer on Gray's Harbor. In May 1954, she moved to Minneapolis, where she became employed at the Federal Reserve Bank. In November 1955, she moved to Pipestone and began working at the Pipestone County Star as a reporter. After marriage, they made their home in Pipestone. After her husband's death, she continued to live in Pipestone. She was an active member of Church of Christ. She was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are one son, Jimmy (Robin) Alberts, Liberty, Mo.; two daughters, Kimberlee (Wayne) Drew, Jasper, and Debra (Jack) Vizecky, Ivanhoe; two brothers, Jack (Gayle) McCorkell, Redwood Falls, and Mick (Diane) McCorkell, Dennison; one sister, Betty Daniels, Gentry, Ark.; and four grandchildren.

JESSIE DYKSTRA, 90, of Worthington, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Countryview Manor in Sibley, Iowa.

KATHRYN WOLF, 85, of Rock Valley, formerly of Hospers, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.

Born May 7, 1920, on a farm west of Freeman, S.D., she was the daughter of Jacob E. and Susanna Stahl Wipf. She married Judson N. Wolf on Sept. 11, 1942, in Schuyler, Neb.
She received her education in a country school. In 1941, she moved to Sheldon, Iowa, where she worked as a waitress in Quality Café. After marriage, they made their home on several farms around Hospers, Iowa. They lived on the Wolf Century Farm in 1954. She had been a resident of Rock Valley Manor for the last five years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sheldon, and of the Laicos Fellowship Group, for which she served as secretary for a year. She was also a member of Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Iowa Women's Bowling Association for more than 40 years.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Barbara Triplett, Blair, Neb., Evelyn (Marty) Cline, Moorhead, Iowa, and Muriel (Roger) Koedam, Rock Valley; one brother, Herman (Inez) Wipf, Freeman, S.D.; three sisters, Elizabeth Gross, Freeman, S.D., Susie (Rheiny) Hofmann, Mountain Lake, and Naomi (Norm) Braun, Albia, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sheldon, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth H. Arnold officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Sheldon.

BILL HARLAND KROHN, 87, of Slayton, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Born June 7, 1918, on a farm in Swift County near Benson, he was the son of William and Sadie Pierce Krohn. He married Yavonne Cohrs in the early 1940s. He married Marti Guthman in 1970.
He grew up on the farm and attended country school. The family moved to a farm near Fulda in the mid-1930s and he worked in the drainage business. In 1945, he and his brothers started the Krohn Brothers Tiling business. In 1949, he and his family moved to a farm north of Slayton, where he continued in the tiling business, farmed and raised livestock. He operated Krohn Construction Company with his son, Terry. He farmed in Mason Township north of Slayton with his son, Jason.

Surviving are four sons, Terry (Virginia) Krohn, Slayton, Pierce (Irene) Krohn, Farmington, Scott Krohn, Atlanta, Ga., and Jason (Jennifer) Krohn, Slayton; three daughters, Nancy (Glen) Jurrens, Pipestone, Noreen Rupp, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Debra Rupp, Pipestone; one brother, Duane (Nadine) Krohn, Worthington; one sister, Wanda Espeset, Rushmore; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

MARGARET GRACE THOMPSON, 93, of Pipestone, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.
Born Dec. 22, 1912, in Joliet, Ill., she was the daughter of Manle and Bertha Drumm Dingman. She married Walter Thompson on Feb. 3, 1927, in Jackson. He died in 1974.
When she was 4, she moved with her parents to Rolph, Iowa, where she attended school. At age 15, she moved with her parents to Jackson. After marriage, they moved to a farm near Bergen. In 1967, she began working for the Jackson County Welfare Office. After her husband's death, she continued to live in their home and work at the welfare office. In 1987, she retired and moved to Pipestone. On Feb. 10, 2003, she became a resident of Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Pipestone.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Betty) Thompson, Minnetonka, and Roger Thompson, Pipestone; two daughters, Grace (Lawrence) Strenge, Odin, and Ardell (Jim) Wolff, Pipestone; 37 grandchildren; 92 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

EUGENE EDGAR BENDIX, 80, of Luverne, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Luverne Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage.
Born Oct. 3, 1925, in Ortonville, he was the son of Fred and Gertrude Zahrbock Bendix. He married Arlene Ree on June 1, 1962.
He graduated from Ortonville High School in 1942. He then enlisted in the Army and served during World War II in the 1390th Engineer Forestry Company until his discharge in March 1946. Following the service, he received his bachelor's degree in education at Hamline University, St. Paul. He resided and taught school in Renville from 1952 to 1962. After marriage, they moved to Luverne. While in Luverne, he earned his master's degree in natural sciences from the University of South Dakota. He was employed as a high school science teacher and golf coach in Luverne. In 1966, he was recognized as the first Teacher of the Year in Luverne and in that same year was recognized as Minnesota Teacher of the Year. After his retirement in 1981, he worked as church custodian at Grace Lutheran, Luverne, until 1987. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday school and was a confirmation mentor, choir member, endowment committee member and served as treasurer and president of the congregation.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Kirk Bendix; two daughters, Julie (Jim) Barkley, Sartell, and Michele (Joe) Vogel, Willmar; one sister, Arlene (Harvey) Lund, Correll; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, at Hartquist Funeral Home-Engebretson Chapel, Luverne.

OCKE WILLIAM DEBOER, 82, of Worthington, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at his home.
Born May 27, 1923, in rural Adrian, he was the son of Ocko and Emma Lupen DeBoer.
He grew up and attended country school and farmed with his father in southeast Adrian. After his father died in 1965, he moved to rural Hardwick where he farmed with his brother. In 1972 he moved to the McMillan Home in Worthington and worked at the Achievement Center. He later moved to New Dawn Inc. in Worthington. He retired in the early 1990s. He was a member of American Reformed Church, Worthington.
Surviving are two sisters, Della Johnson, Rushmore, and Lena Kroeze, Ellsworth; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at American Reformed Church.

HELEN ANNA TAYLOR, 94, of Pipestone, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Pipestone County Medical Center.
Born April 29, 1911, in Germantown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Frederic and Anna Thomas Brinkman. She married Clarence E. Taylor on July 8, 1931, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pipestone. He died on Dec. 16, 1976.
When she was 8, she moved with her parents to a farm in Grange Township north of Pipestone, where she attended country school in District 18. After marriage, they lived on several farms near Pipestone, and Clarence worked as a farm laborer. In 1943, they moved to a farm near Hatfield, where they began farming on their own. In 1944, they moved to a farm near Woodstock, where they farmed for 27 years. In 1971, they retired and moved into Pipestone. After her husband's death, she continued to reside at her home in Pipestone. In November 2001, she became a resident of Ashton Care Center, Pipestone. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pipestone. She was active in Women's General Assembly and in circle.
Surviving are two sons, Rondo (Ruth) Taylor, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Clarence Taylor, Pipestone; one daughter, Lynette (Gary) Kremer, Mankato; and four grandchildren.
