CLARENCE PENNER, 82, of Mountain Lake, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
Born Dec. 26, 1923, in Mountain Lake, he was the son of Jacob and Anna Fast Penner. He married Manetta Pfeil on July 7, 1946, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James.
He graduated from St. James High School in 1942. While living in St. James, he worked for James Brothers Hardware Store. He became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James, in 1945. He later transferred his membership to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mountain Lake, and served as teacher, elder and treasurer. He served in the Army and was discharged in December 1946. After his discharge, he and Manetta moved to the family farm north of Mountain Lake and farmed for 28 years. He also worked for Kliewer Electric and was an active member of the National Farmers Union. He was an active member of the American Legion, serving for more than 50 years.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Steven (Marsha) Penner, Mountain Lake; one daughter, Sherrie Penner, Cokato; one brother, Tony Penner, Mountain Lake; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, at Bjerum Funeral Home, Mountain Lake, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mountain Lake.

ORVILLE STROHMAN, 84, of Forrest City, formerly of Lakefield, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Good Samaritan Center in Forrest City.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley.

BARBARA HOEKSTRA, 57, of Rock Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at her home.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home, Rock Rapids.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Roste Funeral Home, Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Gregg Pudwill officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids.
MABEL JANZEN SAWATZKY, 87, of Mountain Lake, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Windom Area Hospital in Windom.

Born Aug. 27, 1918, at Delft, she was the daughter of Jacob J. and Maria Goertzen Worms. She married William H. Janzen on Jan. 22, 1938. He died on Sept. 12, 1961. She married John J. Sawatzky on Aug. 9, 1989, at First Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake.
She lived in Mountain Lake for most of her life and received her education at the Mountain Lake Public School. She became a member of First Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake. After her first marriage, they farmed southeast of Mountain Lake until 1953, when they moved into Mountain Lake. She worked in central supply at Bethel Hospital and as a medication aide at Eventide Nursing Home and Good Samaritan Village. After her second marriage, they continued to make their home in Mountain Lake. She was active in her church and Mission Society, volunteered at Care and Share and at the Senior Center. She sang in the Ladies Choir and sextets until age 75.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Fay (Richard) Krause, North Mankato; two step-sons, David (Jean) Sawatzky, Healy, Alaska, Gerhardt (Jean) Sawatzky, Billings, Mont.; four step-daughters, Elsie (Robert) Stomberg, Cambridge, Liz (Dallas) Schmidt, Minneapolis, Lorena Mierau, Philadelphia, and Mary Ann (Tim) Fredrickson, Michigan City, Ind.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Friday, at Bjerum Funeral Home, Mountain Lake, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethel Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake.

TAMMY M. DESPLINTER, 39, of Luverne, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Born March 9, 1966, in Freeman, S.D., she was the daughter of Duane and Joy Christensen Luke. She married Randy DeSplinter on Sept. 14, 1991, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Luverne.
She graduated from Mount Marty College, Yankton, S.D., in 1989. She served in the Army Reserves for 10 years in Sioux Falls, S.D. After marriage, they lived in Luverne. She worked at Rock County DAC, Palisades Manor, in Garretson, S.D., and at Southwestern Youth Services in Magnolia. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Luverne, and WCCW.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Chad and Cole DeSplinter, both of Luverne; her father, Luverne; two brothers, Tom (Brandi) Luke, Luverne, and Todd Luke, Luverne.

GAIL FRANCES KLAASSEN, 67, of Tracy, formerly of Boyd, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Tracy Hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1938, in Murray County, near Tracy, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Ockenfels Ankrum. She married Vernon Klaassen on Nov. 21, 1959, at Tracy Presbyterian Church.
She attended country school and graduated from Tracy High School in 1956. She then attended the Mankato Commercial College. Upon graduation, she worked at the Garvin Elevator. After marriage, they settled on a farm near St. Leo, where they farmed together for 46 years. In October 2003, they built a home in Tracy where they semi-retired. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Dawson, and was active in the Presbyterian Women's Group and Homemakers Club. She was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Phyllis (Scott) Kimball, Minnetonka, Loretta (Craig) Feddersen, Aurora, Colo., and Deanna (James) Oellien, Boyd; her mother, Tracy; one brother, Robert (Marianne) Ankrum, Tracy; three sisters, Aryls Ankrum, Slayton, and Dorothy Drackley and Charlene (David) Lenertz, all of Tracy; and four grandchildren.
