ORVILLE RUSSELL STROHMAN, 84, of Forrest City, formerly of Lakefield, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, Forrest Lake.
Born Jan. 22, 1922, in Clay County, Iowa, he was the son of Peter and Myrtle Miller Peterson. He married Eva Hartman Dec. 12, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley.
At age 2, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Olive and Jerry Strohman. He grew up on the family farm in Sioux Valley Township, Jackson County. He graduated in 1941 from Sioux Valley High School. After marriage, they farmed for 44 years before moving into Lakefield, where they lived for 16 years. In 2003, they moved into an assisted living facility in Forrest City and in December 2005 to the Good Samaritan Center in Forrest Lake. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley, where he taught Sunday school.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Ken (June) Strohman, Fertile, Iowa, Russell Strohman, Dunnell, Iowa, and Darrell (Patricia) Strohman, Chandler, Ariz.; one daughter, Joyce (Grant) Russell, Fertile; one brother, Ed (Merlene) Peterson, Eagle Grove, Iowa; one sister, Bernice Rogers, Davenport, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hansen Funeral Home, Lakefield, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley.

WILLIAM "BILL" BURKARD, 80, of Des Moines, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.
He was born in the Lismore area. He married Evelyn. She preceded him in death.
He grew up in the Lismore area. He worked as an HVAC maintenance foreman, retiring from Iowa Lutheran Hospital. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Surviving are one son, Henry (Barbara) Burkard, Des Moines; two daughters, Joanne (Steven) Andersen, Sanborn, Iowa, and Leona Haselrick, Pittsburg, Kan.; one brother, Tom Burkard, Pierz; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Kathryn Gifford, Des Moines.

MILDRED IONE KRAFT, 87, of May City, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at Community Memorial Health Center, Hartley, Iowa.

Born Nov. 20, 1918, in Melvin, Iowa, she was the daughter of Henry and Martena Keller Imhoff. She married Elmer Kraft Sept. 19, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa.
She grew up on a farm near Melvin, where she attended school and graduated from Melvin High School. After marriage, they lived in Ashton and Ocheyedan, Iowa, before building a home in May City in 1987. In 1948, they owned and operated Kraft Tavern and Café in May City. They also owned Kraft Trucking. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, May City, where she was involved in several ladies organizations.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Mickey (Bev) Kraft, May City; two stepsons, Jim (Deb) Miller, Dale (Brenda) Miller, both of Galva, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Mary (Rex) Reisdorph, Holstein, Iowa; one brother, Albert "Dick" (Vernetta) Imhoff, Spirit Lake, Iowa; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, May City, with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery, May City.

WALTER PENNER, 78, of Dovray, formerly of Windom and rural Butterfield, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at Sogge Good Samaritan Center, Windom.

BARBARA HOEKSTRA, 57, of Rock Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at her home.
Born May 30, 1948, in Rock Rapids, she was the daughter of Erwin and Myra Rosenberg Hoekstra.
She was raised on the family farm southwest of Rock Rapids until moving to town in 1985. She began working for Parkview Industries at Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa, in November 1980. She was a member of Christian Church (Disciples), Rock Rapids and the 4-H Project Pioneers Club. She participated in the Special Olympics.

Surviving are her mother; and four brothers, Gene (Marcia) Hoekstra, Dunnelon, Fla., Ed (Linda Woelber) Hoekstra, Tucson, Ariz., Scott (Eloise) Hoekstra, Rock Rapids, and Ron (Beth) Hoekstra, Castle Rock, Colo.

Born April 9, 1918, in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, she was the daughter of Eddie and Ragna Anderson Warner. She married Selmer Osland Oct. 20, 1937, at the Lutheran parsonage in Flandreau, S.D. He died Aug. 3, 1997.

She received her education at Sunnyside School, Highwater Township. She attended St. Paul Bible Institute. After marriage, they farmed in Storden Township. She became a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Center in 2005. She was a member of Highwater Lutheran Church, rural Lamberton.

KATHLEEN "KAY" SANFORD, 85, of Phoenix, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, in Phoenix.
Born June 15, 1920, in Madison, S.D., she was the daughter of Claude and Selma Breedlove. She married Clifford Sanford Sept. 4, 1943, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died in April 1965.
She grew up in Madison and later moved with her parents to Worthington. After marriage, they lived in the state of Washington, returning to the Midwest in 1952 and settling in Ellsworth. After her husband's death, she moved to Worthington and in 1980 moved to Phoenix.
Surviving are two sons, Ricky Joe (Susan) Sanford, and Gregory (Lisa) Sanford, both of Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Karyl (Mike Dwyer) Sanford, Scottsdale, Ariz., Bonnie (Pat) Flathers, Chino Valley, Ariz., and Diane (Vern) Curby, Peoria, Ariz.; one sister, Eldred Diehl, Red Wing; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
