Julia Kay Svoboda was born on April 17, 1973 in Windom, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Gloria (Lazano) Svoboda. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1991 and then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree. After her education, she worked as a phlebotomist for the St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul in their outreach program. She moved back to Jackson in 2000. On May 12, 2001, she was united in marriage to Kevin Nordquist at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson. After their marriage, they made their home in Jackson and Julie worked as a laboratory technician and x-ray technician for the Jackson Medical Center. She even drove a pay loader for her father's construction company. After her divorce, Julie became involved with Lloyd Eggert and traveled with him to his job sites for the last 2 years. Julie passed away at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the age of 35 years and 3 months.

Julie was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson, where she had been baptized and confirmed. She had been one of the Church organists and had played piano for the Bible school program. She was a member of the Circle and the Jackson Council of Church Women. She loved playing the piano at family gatherings. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Legion in Jackson. She had her favorite blankie that went everywhere with her. She loved her chickens, which she and her mother used to exchange at Christmas. She loved playing basketball and volleyball and running. Julie was an avid Viking and Gopher football fan. Julie had many nicknames including Fish, Tuna fish, Tunie and Jewels.

Julie is survived by her father, Walter and Debi Svoboda of Jackson, her mother , Gloria Svoboda of Jackson, 2 brothers, John (Terri) Svoboda of Jackson and Michael (Esther) Kielty of Plymouth, Minnesota, 2 sisters, Lori (Lee) Smith of Fairmont, Minnesota and Teresa Svoboda and her friend, Michael Tilley of Jackson, 3 nieces, 2 uncles, George (Joyce) Svoboda of Jackson and Richard Lazano of Rochester, Minnesota, her grandmother, Florence Lazano of Fairmont and an aunt, Audrey Slater of Fairmont.

Julie was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Lupe Lazano, her paternal grandparents, Les and Marge Svoboda, her great grandfather, George W. Svoboda and her beloved dog, Max.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson with Father Charles J. Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson.

Visitation will be on Sunday, 7-20-08, from 3 to 6 PM at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson with a Rosary at 5:30 PM and on Monday - one hour prior to the service at the Church.
