What prompted you to run for county commissioner? Being a county commissioner is one way to represent the people of District 1. I am a good listener, able to understand all sides of issues, and enjoy conversations with concerned people. After serving as the mayor of Currie, I thought being a county commissioner would be an interesting and challenging job. Being a life-long resident of Murray County, I care about what is happening, and I think with better representation, it can be a good place to live.
Do you have experience in leadership or local government? I served six years on the Currie City Council, and spent 13 as the mayor of Currie. I am a volunteer firefighter, a church council member, a Be Friender through church, a Lake Shetek PALS member, a Currie Town & Country member, a 4-H volunteer and supporter, a Murray County Fair supporter and owner of Jens Construction.
What do you think is the most important issue in your county? After visiting with various people in District 1, I have found that they would like more representation on issues affecting their district. They are also concerned that not enough of their tax dollars are being spent on projects in their district.

Did the recent redistricting influence your decision to run? I had decided to run for county commissioner before the redistricting.
