Name: Jamie Thomazin

Occupation: I am employed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as a District Conservationist in Lyon County. I have been with the NRCS for 29 years.

What prompted you to run for county commissioner? I have been involved with County government throughout my career. I am interested in working with Murray County citizens and government. I have been involved with community and county boards in Murray Co.

Do you have any experience in leadership or local government? Yes, I have been working with Federal, State and Local governments throughout my Career with NRCS over the past 29 years. I have worked with these levels of Government in Nebraska earlier and in Minnesota since 1989. I am currently an elected Supervisor for Mason Township and to the Shetek Area Sewer and Water Commission in Murray County. I have experience working in partnerships with County Agencies (Water task force, Planning and Zoning, County Commissioners, Soil and Water Conservation Districts), Watershed Districts (RCRCA, Area II, Yellow Medicine Watershed District, Middle DeMoines Watershed, Kanaranzi Little Rock Watershed), as well as with Regional Governments such ad the Prairie Coteau RC&D. I am very experienced with working with government budgets. I am an alumni of the Blandin Community Leadership Program which is a training to develop extensive Community leadership skills.

What do you think is the most important issue in your county? Developing and implementing a short and long term development plan for Murray County. I would encourage keeping the general public of Murray Co. informed of the issues within the county. I would like to involve the citizens by encouraging individuals to be active on committees to assist the Commissioners with the important decisions that need to be made. I would use my abilities of working with individuals to listen and comprehend the concerns and ideas of the Constituents of District 1 and all of Murray Co. The strength of county government needs to come from the Citizens of the County not by the opinions of the county officials themselves.

Did the resent redistricting influence your decision to run? No, I have had an interest in being a community leader prior to the redistricting. I ran and lost a close race 4 years ago. Since then I have been driven to get involved with the County by being active on the SAWS Board, Mason Township Board and by attending many other county meetings. I have a desire to work with the constituents of Murray Co. and District 1 as their County Commissioner.
