One dead after semis collide in Aitkin County

AITKIN, Min.. -- A Merrifield, Minn., man was killed Thursday, March 1, in a crash in Aitkin County involving two semis.

Terry Lee Page, 60, was traveling south on U.S. 169 in Waukenabo Township in a Kenworth truck hauling a box trailer. As he reached the intersection at Aitkin County Road 3, also called Grove Street, he broadsided a Mack truck hauling logs.

Traffic on 169 has the right-of-way. There are stop signs on Grove Street.

His airbag did not deploy. He died at the scene, according to the Minnesota State Patrol report.

The driver of the Mack truck, Garin Lee Hockett, 45, of Backus, Minn., had non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene, the report said.

The road conditions were dry and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
