Osceola County Fair begins Tuesday

SIBLEY, Iowa -- County fair season officially gets under way when the Osceola County Fair begins Tuesday. Events that day will include non-livestock conference judging from 8:30 a.m. to noon and the communications and clothing events from 1:15 to 4 p.m., both at Sibley-Ocheyedan High School. The Osceola County Fair Queen and Little Miss Osceola contest will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Great Plains Building.

Open class exhibits can be entered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and must be removed by 4:30 p.m. July 19.

The rest of the fair schedule follows:

WEDNESDAY: 6 a.m. to 11 am., beef, horse, swine and poultry entry day. (Horse and beef exhibitors have priority weigh-in from 6 to 7:30 a.m.); 9:30 a.m., mandatory horse check-in; 10 a.m., horse show; 2 p.m., small pet and dog show; 5 p.m., FFA labor auction; 6 p.m., Super Showmanship; 7 p.m., Share-the-Fun and Fashion Review at grandstand.

THURSDAY: 7 to 10 a.m., dairy, sheep and rabbits entry; 7 a.m., swine show; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., commercial building open; 1:30 p.m., poultry show; 3:30 p.m., horse show, games; 6 p.m. pen of three; 7 p.m., Great Plains Tractor Pullers in the grandstand.

FRIDAY: 7 a.m., feeder calf, cow-calf, breeding heifer, market beef and bottle-bucket; 8 a.m., bottle-bucket calf interviews; 1 p.m., dairy show; 3 p.m., rabbit show; 5 p.m., 4-H barbecue; 7 p.m., Iron Bull Pulling Team ATV Pull and Pickup Pull.

JULY 19: 7 a.m., barbecue cook-off cooking begins, judging at 4 p.m.; 9 a.m., sheep show; 11:30 a.m., Super Showmanship in the show ring; afternoon, events in grandstand including mud volleyball, ag Olympics, greased pig, dog agility; 2 p.m., Kids' pedal tractor pull; after 1 p.m., all 4-H, FFA and open class exhibits released; 7 p.m., demolition derby, grandstand; 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., Osceola County Fair dance, 4-H building.

The Otter Valley Railroad display will be open daily from Wednesday through July 19. Keller Fun Company will provide amusements including Adrenaline Run, an 18-foot slice, toddler play center, Sea World Jumper and three-lane bungee run from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 5 to 9 p.m. July 19. Chain saw artist Chester Yackley will do chain saw carvings throughout the fair.
