Pipestone's Watertower Festival begins today

PIPESTONE -- The Calumet Players will present The Music Man tonight through Sunday as part of Pipestone's annual Watertower Festival.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday, all at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center. Tickets are still available for each performance, and can be reserved by calling the Box Office at 1-877-722-2787.

Among the events planned for today are a kids' bike parade at 6 p.m.; Wiener Dog Races at 7 p.m.; and hot dogs, chips and soft drinks served at Vet's Park from 5:30 to 7 p.m. People can eat for half-price with the purchase of a Watertower Festival button.

Events through the weekend are as follows:

Friday

5:30 to 8 p.m., Pipestone Area School Band will sell burgers, chips, Pepsi and ice cream at First Farmers & Merchants parking lot to raise money for a band trip next fall.

9 p.m. to 1 a.m., street dance with music by Vermillion Amped; Pipestone County 4-H will sell brat patty sandwiches and chips as a fundraiser for the 4-H Fairground Improvement Fund.

Saturday

Courthouse Lawn Activities:

9 a.m. to 3 p.m., arts and craft show.

10 a.m., parade with Grand Marshal Dick Schulze.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids inflatables.

11:15 a.m., Groove Inc. standup.

12:30 p.m., parade results and button drawing.

1 p.m., entertainment by Southwest Minnesota Honor Flight featuring Lonny Carpenter.

2:30 p.m., Beautiful Baby winners announced.

Other activities:

8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Car Show & Shine, Moore Park.

After parade, All Schools Homecoming Party, lawn of Old Central School.

11 a.m., volleyball tournament; 11:30 a.m., bean bag Tournament, both in the city lot south of U.S. 75 & Minnesota 30. Call (507) 825-4574 to participate.

Noon, cooking begins at the Chuck Wagon Cookoff at Fort Pipestone. Serving starts at 5 p.m. until gone. Everyone is invited to visit during the day and watch this event.

6:30 p.m., free Ranch Rodeo, Pipestone County Fairgrounds.

Sunday

9 a.m., Serving breakfast until gone at the Chuck Wagon Cookoff, Fort Pipestone.
