SPRINGFIELD - A search is underway for a state prison inmate that escaped from the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield this afternoon, according to a news release from the state Department of Corrections.
A white, 2007 International 5-ton pumper truck from a prison shop was driven through two gates at the facility at approximately 1:45 p.m. Local law enforcement is attempting to locate the vehicle. The license plate number on the vehicle is believed to be DB 300.
Prison staff members conducted an emergency count to determine if any inmates were unaccounted for. Inmate Jesse Oliver, age 21, was determined to be missing. Oliver is serving a four-year sentence for second-degree burglary out of Minnehaha County. He is a white male, approximately 6-feet-1 and 160 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
People who see Oliver or the vehicle are being asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
