WORTHINGTON -- Mental illness affects one in every four adults, and in an effort to educate the public about the disorders, a free program titled "Hope For Recovery" is planned in Worthington.

The class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at the new Southwest Mental Health Building, 1210 Fifth Ave, Worthington.

This class will help navigate the services available for those diagnosed with a mental illness; discuss where medical treatment and answers can be found; and finding others who can just "hold my hand."

The class will be facilitated by volunteers from the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota. The facilitators are trained to give not only helpful information, but offer support to individuals. This creates opportunities to join others in supporting NAMI's efforts to improve the system of care for people living with mental illness.

For more information or to register, call Phyllis at (507) 662-5473. Lunch will be provided by the local NAMI affiliate. The class is made possible by a grant from the Worthington Area Healthcare Foundation.
