WORTHINGTON - Each year, the Daily Globe organizes a chair-ity event for the Windsurfing Regatta and Unvarnished Music Festival. Local sponsors purchase and decorate Adirondack-style chairs, which are auctioned off to the public with the proceeds going to a local charity.
This year, bidders will be vying for pairs of chairs.
“There is an adult Adirondack chair and then a child’s matching chair,” explained Daily Globe Circulation Manager Lori Caster. “They are supposed to be painting them theme-related so they match. It will be fun to see what they do.”
The beneficiary of this year’s auction will be Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC),
Love INC is an organization that networks local churches, volunteers and comunity organizations to help people in need, first by providing basics like food and clothing, but also through long-term responses such as life-skills training and transitional housing programs.
The chairs will be on display in the Daily Globe tent on Sailboard Beach during the first days of the Regatta, and the public can vote on their favorites by placing coins and bills in designated containers. Those proceeds will also go to Love INC.
While at the Daily Globe tent, people can also pick up a copy of that day’s newspaper, register for daily door prizes and grab a bottle of water provided by Culligan.
The Daily Globe tent will be open from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The chairs will be sold at 5 p.m. Saturday by veteran auctioneer Jack Sliver.
