WORTHINGTON -- A number of area businesses will participate Friday and Saturday in a special event coordinated by the Worthington Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The Home, Health and Garden Show will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Worthington's Northland Mall. At least 40 businesses have already signed up to have booths at the show.
According to Becky Berning, chair of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, a similar show had been put on in the community not long ago.
"The ag committee of the Chamber used to sponsor it, and it was the Farm and Home Show," Berning said. "Our CVB committee, the marketing/ vision committee, decided we would take this over and kind of change the name."
"It seems like we have quite a few of the same people (with booths) that we've had in the past, but also some new businesses," added Holly Sieve, a member of the event's organizing committee.

Darlene Macklin, the Chamber's executive director, said the Farm and Home Show was in 2004.
"We were actually receiving calls at the office asking if we were going to have one or not," Macklin said of the push to coordinate a show again.
In addition to the numerous display booths, hourly demonstrations are scheduled to be given by area businesses and community groups during the Home, Health and Garden Show. Among those scheduled for demonstrations are Worthington Regional Hospital, Tae Kwon Do, Tastefully Simple, Just for Kix, Pampered Chef, Crafty Corner, the Worthington High School gymnastics team and the Worthington Garden Club.
The event, which is co-sponsored by the CVB and Northland Mall, will also include sandwiches and beverages from Hy-Vee for sale. The show is free and open to the public.
It's hoped, said Berning, that the Home, Health and Garden Show can become an annual event.
Individuals or businesses interested in having a booth at the show may call the Chamber office at 372-2919 before noon Thursday. There is a nominal fee for a booth.
