Reported bear sighting keeps recess indoors at Minn. school

COTTAGE GROVE - Families of students at Royal Oaks Elementary were notified Monday that recess was held indoors due to a reported bear sighting by area residents.

COTTAGE GROVE - Families of students at Royal Oaks Elementary were notified Monday that recess was held indoors due to a reported bear sighting by area residents.

Students were released from school as usual, however, police patrols were in the area, a list serv email from Royal Oaks Elementary principal Theresa Blume-Thole stated.

Police responded to three separate calls from residents on the reported bear sighting. All of the calls came in around 11:30 a.m.

Patrol officers at the scene never caught a glimpse the animal, Woodbury police officials said.

According to the three separate police reports, residents said they spotted a black bear at Courtly Road and Woodlane Drive, near Creekview Dental on Woodlane Drive and at Lamplight and Woodlane drives.
