JEFFERS -- The Red Rock Central school board may make a decision on a proposed district referendum as soon as its July meeting.
Board members continued discussion late Monday on the proposed $670,000 referendum that would be put before voters during the November general election.
"We need to make sure we have enough money in the general fund," explained Superintendent John Brennan. "We need a few buses and we need to finish up the roofing issues that we have. There are a number of things."
The board is considering revoking its existing $950 per-pupil referendum and replacing it with a $1,450 per- pupil referendum. The district's current per-pupil spending falls in the lower half of southwest Minnesota school districts, with other area districts ranging from $500 to $1,900 per pupil.
The proposed referendum would cost taxpayers $89 per $50,000 of taxable valuation on residential homes each year. The time period has not yet been decided, but Brennan said the board was considering a 10-year collection.

The board also received the district's Q-Comp annual report at its Monday meeting. This fall, RRC will begin its fourth year of Q-Comp, the Minnesota Department of Education's performance-based pay and professional development program.
The board's next meeting will be 7:30 p.m. July 19 at Red Rock Central Elementary, Jeffers.
