WORTHINGTON - New victims of fraud activity come forward daily across the United States. Frauds range from mail fraud to Medicare fraud to winning a foreign lottery.
As new scams crop up, law enforcement and other agencies are working to inform the public on how to be safe and what to do if you become a victim of one of these crimes.
The public will have a free opportunity to learn how to protect themselves on July 9, when Jeff McNickle and Worthington Police Officer Chris Hillesheim will present “Elder Fraud: Just Say No.”
While the presentation will discuss why seniors are often targets of scams, the information is applicable to younger age groups. McNickle said if other groups are interested in hosting the presentation, it is adaptable to multiple age ranges and is free to any group. The program lasts approximately one hour.
