WORTHINGTON -- September daytime high temperatures were one degree warmer than usual (72.7 vs. 71.7), but the overnight lows (49.7 vs. 46.9) were almost three degrees warmer than expected -- so last month's temperature mean (average) was a pleasant 61.2 degrees, a pleasant 1.7 degrees warmer than usual.

The warmest temperature of the month was 86 degrees on Sept. 2. The coolest temperature of the month was 38 degrees, which was logged on Sept. 15 and again on the 30th.

The month's rainfall total was 2.62 inches, only slightly less than the 2.89 inches that is usual for the years since 1971. That rainfall pushed the January through September precipitation total to 22.59 inches.

The month's rainfall was recorded as follows: .61 on the 2nd; .4 on the 3rd; .05 on the 6th; .03 on the 7th; a trace on the 9th; .06 on the 11th; a trace again on the 12th; .04 on the 13th; .12 on the 14th; .08 on the 23rd; .04 on the 24th; .34 on the 25th; .28 on the 26th; and .57 on the 29th.

Daytime high temperatures in the 80s were recorded on seven days; in the 70s on 11 days; in the 60s on 11 days; and in the 50s on one day.

Overnight lows in the 60s were recorded on three nights; in the 50s on nine nights; in the 40s on 16 nights; and in the 30s on two nights.

What this region didn't get during September was snow.

A search through past weather records shows that Worthington received trace amounts of snow -- just a dusting -- during September 1984 and 1991.
