SIBLEY, Iowa -- A Spirit Lake, Iowa, man was killed in a car accident Sunday morning.
William Willemssen Jr., 39, died from injuries sustained in the accident while being transported to an area hospital. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle collision at 8:52 a.m. Sunday.
According to the report, Willemssen was driving a 1993 Buick on Iowa 9, west of the Harris, Iowa, intersection. Willemssen was passing another vehicle when his vehicle swerved back into the eastbound lane, lost control and crossed the center line, causing him to collide head-on with traffic.
Grant Stewart, 51, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, was driving a 2004 Chevy Silverado pickup westbound when the two vehicles collided, a press release from the sheriff's office stated. Both drivers needed to be extricated by the Jaws of Life and were transported to area hospitals.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol, Ocheyedan Fire and Ambulance, Sibley Rescue and Ambulance, Harris Fire and Lake Park Rescue assisted with the accident.
