Troske faces charges in N.D. murder case: Man who allegedly wounded one, killed one at wedding reception makes initial appearance

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- A New Rockford man accused of shooting and killing a man and wounding a woman at a weekend wedding reception made his initial appearance on murder and attempted murder charges in Southeast District Court here Thursday.

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. - A New Rockford man accused of shooting and killing a man and wounding a woman at a weekend wedding reception made his initial appearance on murder and attempted murder charges in Southeast District Court here Thursday.

David Troske, 51, is accused of murder in the death of Donald “Donnie” Perleberg, 41, Pingree, and attempted murder in the shooting of Mary Seiler, 51, New Rockford, at a wedding reception about 1 a.m. Sunday at the New Rockford Eagles Aerie 2923.
Troske also faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a firearm into an establishment where alcohol is served.
Troske remains in custody in the Ramsey County jail on $2 million bail.
Perleberg’s funeral was scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown. Seiler remains in the intensive care unit of a Bismarck hospital.
Judge James Hovey read Troske his rights as a defendant, the charges against him and the potential penalties for each charge. Troske rescinded an earlier request for a court-appointed attorney and was represented by attorney Alex Reichert from Grand Forks during the proceedings.
Hovey said Troske will be scheduled for a preliminary hearing. During a preliminary hearing, the prosecution must prove that it is probable that a crime was committed and that Troske committed the crime. If the prosecution is successful, Troske would then be arraigned on the charges and a trial date could be set.
Troske made no comments during the proceedings.
Several members of Troske’s family were in attendance but declined to comment on the case.
Troske is facing a Class AA felony murder charge with a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole. The attempted murder charge is a Class A felony punishable by 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Aggravated assault and reckless endangerment are Class C felonies punishable by five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Carrying a firearm in a liquor establishment is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a $3,000 fine.
