PIPESTONE - Two individuals face multiple charges following investigation of a driving complaint Wednesday night south of Pipestone.
Two of four individuals taken into custody - Wilson Marin and Elvin Marin - have each been charged with the following by the Pipestone County Attorney: kidnapping-for ransom, reward or as a shield; kidnapping-to commit great bodily harm/terrorize; second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon-fear; second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon-bodily harm; false imprisonment intentional restraint; give peace officer false name of another person; and fifth-degree assault-inflict or attempt bodily harm.
According to a Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Friday afternoon, the office responded at 6:49 p.m. Wednesday to a driving complaint report on Minnesota 23. A silver Ford Focus was reportedly driving approximately 30 mph in a 60-mph zone, and was swerving all over the roadway in both lanes of traffic.
A deputy located the vehicle related to the complaint and when attempting to stop the vehicle for several driving violations, the Focus kept going. A 14-mile pursuit ensued and was terminated for public safety reasons.
A few minutes after the pursuit ended, a deputy patrolling that area located the suspect vehicle parked in a farmyard driveway by the roadway. Two people were taken into custody at the location of the vehicle. During that time, the resident/owner of the farm where the arrests were taking place contacted PIpestone County dispatch to state that two more people were in the garage and she didn’t know who they were.
Deputies subsequently responded to the garage and took two more people into custody. It was determined through the investigation that all four people were related to the vehicle involved in the pursuit,
The Sioux Falls Police Department, MInnehaha County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office in the case. Charges in the state of South Dakota as well as federal charges are still pending. The investigation remains ongoing, and there is no further public safety concerns related to this incident.
