CURRIE -- A pair of events will take place Saturday at Lake Shetek State Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Dakota War of 1862.

A bus tour to places that played a part in the war will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Stops at various cabin sites will include discussion about the people who once lived here and how their lives were affected. A small fee will be collected to offset the cost of the bus; individuals should meet at the picnic grounds parking lot.

The program "A Visitor from the Past" will be from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Picnic Area Ampitheater. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the early settlers of Lake Shetek who had a dream for a settlement and a new life.

An actor will portray Mrs. Lavina Eastlick, one of the settlers from the past, as she shares her story of how those dreams came to an end when the Dakota went to war -- a war that brought an end to 14 European lives and an unknown amount of Dakota lives at Lake Shetek.

The state park is located north of Currie on Murray County 38. For more information, call (507) 763-3256.
