WORTHINGTON -- The United Way of Nobles County will host its annual live telethon from 5 to 8:30 p.m. tonight in the Worthington High School gym.
The call-in fundraiser is also being billed as a community celebration, with the public invited to attend the telethon and enjoy food, entertainment, vendors and a silent auction.
The United Way of Nobles County is aiming to raise $140,000 during its 2010 campaign, which is currently under way. The goal represents a $5,000 increase from last year.
Serving of food at the live telethon begins at 5 p.m., with chili or chicken noodle soup, barbecues, cookie and beverage on the menu. There are fees for adults and children, respectively.
Entertainment will be provided by Kay Prunty Dancers-The Dance Academy and Prairie Elementary Singers. Among the vendors scheduled to have tables at the telethon are Avalon Beauty Academy, Avon, BeautiControl, Celebrating Homes, Discovery Toys, Forever Yours Jewelry, Lit'l Wizards, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Silpada Jewelry, Three Stones Therapeutic Massage, Tupperware, Unicel, Usborne Books and Youngevity.

A silent auction will also take place during the course of the telethon, which will broadcast live on Cable Channel 3, US104 and KWOA (730 AM). Additionally, there will be a live webcast of the telethon on www.dglobe.com .
The United Way of Nobles County, formerly the Wor-thington Area United Way, has seen a dramatic increase in the number of organiza-tions requesting funds this year, as well as requests for increased funds from the groups they have supported in the past.
"We actually had more agencies than ever before make requests," Kelli Van Grouw, president of United Way of Nobles County, told the Daily Globe shortly before its 2010 campaign kickoff in September. The organization changed its name in early July to better reflect the reach it has on agencies throughout the county.
Among the new agencies receiving funds from United Way this year are D.A.R.E., Worthington-Crailsheim International, the Worthing-ton Christian Food Shelf, Lutheran Social Service's Senior Nutrition Program and the Southwest Crisis Center. They join 22 other agencies who have received funds in the past.
