LUVERNE - District 22 Sen. Bill Weber, elected to his first four-year term in 2012, announced Tuesday he will seek re-election.
“It has been my privilege to serve the citizens of Senate District 22 as their state senator since being elected in 2012,” Weber said in a press release. “I believe that I have been a strong voice for common sense government and for protecting and advancing the interests of southwest Minnesota.
“Recognizing the need for continued strong leadership, I am announcing my plans to seek re-election to the Minnesota State Senate in 2016,” he said.
Weber, R-Luverne, is a lifelong resident of his district. He grew up on his family’s farm, operated a local service business and spent 16 years in local government.
He has served continuously on four legislative committees: Education; Environment and Energy; Jobs, Ag and Rural Development; and Environment, Economic Development and Agriculture Finance. In addition, he is part of the Senate Rural Task Force and Permanent School Land Trust Committee. He is also co-chair of the GOP Rural Caucus.
“I am honored to have received a variety of recognitions and awards from the local commodity groups - the League of Minnesota Cities, the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, the Minnesota School Board Association, NFIB (National Federation of Independent Businesses) and other entities,” Weber said. “They have recognized me for being willing to bring an end to excessive, duplicative and costly regulations, protecting agriculture and our area’s industries, and working for education funding with fewer strings attached.
“Work does remain and I pledge my dedication to continuing the battle for better government and a better Minnesota.
