The recent buzz in the news concerns a bill favoring physician assisted suicide. That concerns me. We live in a society where the life of an unborn baby means very little, and now we want permission to end our own lives if we feel conditions warrant it. However, at the same time we flock to our congressmen and women, not to mention penal institutions, demanding that the life of a convicted murderer be protected -- to be given prison time that cost the taxpayers millions of dollars each year -- instead of the death sentence that they may so readily deserve.

Have we become so confused that we would rather protect dangerous people than those who are innocent? Pro-abortion people pound legislative desks in support of women who have been raped or suffered incest. However, Dr. James Kennedy, after serious study on the matter, proclaims that all of the abortions performed, which now numbers in the tens of millions, less than 2 percent of them are a result of rape or incest, but it makes up 98 percent of the argument. When I was growing up in small-town Iowa, abortion was an unspeakable act of murder. Now it's simply a form of birth control, and people who tried to take their own life were arrested and placed under a doctor's care.

What happened? We as a society have become so callous we no longer care who we hurt, unless of course it's a convicted killer.
