WILLMAR -- Charges against a 17-year-old boy suspected in the stabbing death of Adam Kenneth Milton, 21, of Willmar, are expected to be filed today, according to Kandiyohi County Attorney Boyd Beccue.
Prosecutors were still meeting with police investigators Monday afternoon and had not made a final decision on the specific charges against the teen, Beccue said.
They were also waiting for police reports and the juvenile's criminal history, which will be reviewed to determine if prosecutors will seek adult certification, which will move the case from juvenile to adult court, he added.
"We haven't made that decision yet," Beccue said. "We hope to have the decision made by the time of the hearing."
The juvenile's first court hearing will be a detention hearing, most likely an afternoon hearing in Kandiyohi County District Court. The juvenile is being held at Prairie Lakes Youth Programs, where he was taken after he and another 17-year-old were arrested by Willmar Police. Officers found the pair during a search of the area near where Milton was found lying on the lawn near an apartment building in the area of 1337 24th Street N.W.

According to police, witnesses said there had been a fight between Milton and the two juveniles.
Milton, who suffered stab wounds to the chest, was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to the police department.
The other 17-year-old has been released, Beccue said.
Milton played football, as a starting defensive back, for the Ridgewater College Warriors.
