READING — The Wilmont Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 4:12 p.m. Sunday at 28700 200th St., east of Reading.
Wilmont Fire Chief Steve Joens said structural damage was contained to a bathroom area in the large, two-story farmhouse. The Brewster Fire Department provided mutual aid.
Joens said a passerby spotted the fire from the road and reported it. No one was at home at the time. While he noted the presence of a wall heater in the bathroom, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Firefighters were on scene for approximately one hour, and Joens said Brewster provided both water and additional manpower.
“The roads were treacherous getting there — we responded as quick as we could,” Joens said. “Luckily it got contained early — luckily it was caught when it did.”
