WORTHINGTON -- Sixth-graders from southwest Minnesota recently competed in Math Masters at Worthington Middle School, testing their knowledge of facts, pre-algebra, geometry, statistics and probability.
Murray County Central's team took first place, holding off Windom's team by just one point in a tie-breaker round. MCC students participating were Andy Garza, Seth Bass, Lissa Carlson, Liz Thomsen and Lorri Sweetman. Windom students participating were Jacob Gotto, Blake Warner, LaLissa Wiens, Max Sykora and Scott Rahn.
WMS took sixth place out of the 13 teams participating. The team included captain Tracy Thongvanh, Akeem Oman and Alison Vote, as well as Alex Tang and Bobby Nguyen.
More than 4,000 fifth- and sixth-graders participate in Math Masters competitions each year.
