WORTHINGTON - A Worthington man arrested Monday faces first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge after allegedly sexually assaulting a victim younger than 13 years old.
According to the redacted criminal complaint, officers arrested Lazaro T. Lopez, 19, following an investigation initiated May 8 after the alleged victim reported to a Worthington police officer that she had been raped that evening.
The alleged victim was examined by Child’s Voice in Sioux Falls, S.D.
A Worthington investigator arranged a forensic analysis of the alleged victim’s phone, where he located information “which was consistent with her being sexually assaulted,” the complaint details.
Lopez’s bail was set at $50,000 with conditions or $100,000 without, and he’s prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim. The felony-level charge is punishable up to 30 years imprisonment, a $40,000 fine or both.
