WORTHINGTON - A Worthington man arrested Sunday after allegedly assaulting a man in an alleyway while impaired now faces criminal charges in Nobles County District Court.
Ezequiel F. Lopez-Lopez, 25, is charged with felony second-degree assault; fourth-degree damage to property, a misdemeanor; open bottle law, a misdemeanor; and two counts of DWI, gross misdemeanors. A felony second-degree assault conviction - the most serious offense - is punishable by a maximum of seven years imprisonment, a $14,000 fine or both.
According to the criminal complaint, Worthington police officers responded to the 800 block of 10th Street in Worthington for a report of property damage.
Upon arrival, officers witnessed several individuals in an alleyway. One of the individuals claimed Lopez-Lopez parked his vehicle, “got out, punched him, hit him with the beer bottle and broke his vehicular window with the beer bottle.”
Officers observed a laceration above the alleged victim’s eye and blood on his clothes.

Upon contact with Lopez-Lopez, the officer witnessed a number of behaviors he believed consistent with being under the influence of alcohol, the complaint details.
Preliminary breath test results indicate Lopez-Lopez’s blood alcohol content was .197 shortly after the incident.
In a post-arrest interview, Lopez-Lopez admitted to assaulting the victim, citing personal reasons to law enforcement.
Lopez-Lopez’s bail was set at $20,000 with conditions of $40,000 without. His initial appearance is scheduled June 26 in Nobles County District Court.
